Despite the Orica-GreenEDGE bus getting wedged under the finishing arch, nearly cutting the stage short by 3km, the fiasco was contained and the race ended where it should. In the rush to the line however, several crashes took out most of the top sprinters, clearing the way for a surprise win by Marcel Kittel of Team Argos-Shimano.
